Sri Lanka’s Southwest coast offers great beaches, fantastic surfing, scuba diving and historical sites, including the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site listed Galle Fort. There are several excellent bird watching sites, as well as seasonal sea turtle watching opportunities.
The beach towns such as Beruwela, Bentota and Unawatuna are well geared towards tourism and offer plenty of accommodation options, as well as leisure activities such as boat tours, paragliding, jet-skiing and kite surfing.
Hikkaduwa is a well known surfing location and offers some of the best surf on the island. Due to its closeness to Colombo, most places can easily be reached within a few hours from the city or the airport.
